The 1947 Spartan Manor is the second year that Spartan Aircraft Company produced trailers. The Manor s were also the smallest trailer they built at approximatlely 25 Ft. They were manufactured with aircraft aluminum, riveted seams just like the aircraft the company produced.

This trailer would be an excellent candidate for a full restoration. The exterior of this Spartan Manor is in very good condition considering it s age. No major damage. It has been polished primarily with Nuvite products.

Exterior condition:

Roof: the three vents are original and in good condition. The roof itself has minor dings, probably from hail. Otherwise good shape.

Sides: both sides are straight. It has a few dings and scratches as expected with a vintage trailer. There is approx. a half inch hole above the curb side rear roll down window. I removed a 4ft x 6 inches section of the rear bottom skirt which had a corroded spot from a tree growing against it. The trailer has both of the original aluminum wheel skirts in good shape. Both entrance steps are still on it, but the rear steps a little stiff when pulling out. It has all of the original glass windows. Two of the three front Lexon plastic windows are original. All original running lights and turn signals. I have a new stainless license plate holder and center brake light, which are close replicas of the original, but not installed. The trailer lights are not in working condition.

Bottom: the frame and tongue are original and in surprisingly good shape. There is surface rust and you can still see the original yellow paint. The belly pan which is best described as very thick tar paper was removed. It was dried out, cracked and falling apart. The A frame tongue and jack are original. The jack is currently jammed and not working. I had the tongue and jack repainted by a local body shop. It has the original 2 inch ball coupling and I added safety chains.

The single axel and leaf springs are original, have surface rust, but solid and work as they should. The trailer brakes are there but never tested. The original rims were repainted and new 10 ply tires are on it. There is grease in the wheel bearings, but I didn t re pack them.

Both original aluminum entry doors swing and latch, but the outside handles are missing. Both screen doors are in poor shape, but could be used as patterns.

The interior is almost all original. The birch panels are there but will need to be refurbished and some replaced. There are some wall and ceiling panels which are water stained, damaged, but could be used as patterns. The wood cabinet closet doors are in fair condition. The original metal countertops and sinks are in good condition.

This trailer does not have a bathroom or shower. It has a shaving sink towards the rear of the trailer by the rear door. The cabinet and sink are in poor condition.

The original plywood floor does have some soft spots. The plywood is delaminating by each entrance door. The original linoleum type covering in the front and rear are in poor shape. The original tile in the kitchen area is ok, but just plain old.

It has the original Coleman kerosene / diesel fuel heater, LP free standing range / oven and GM Frigidaire refrigerator. None of the appliances have been tested.

It has the original electrical 110volt system, which works, but should rewired.

Trailer Weight is approximately 3700 lbs. Tongue weight around 500 lbs.

The trailer has a clear title and is in my name.

It amazes me that a 76 year old Spartan Manor can be polished up and almost look new. The Spartan quality and craftsmanship is very evident !
