1950 M System

In 2022, we purchased a 1950 M-System trailer in original—but very rough—condition from a couple we met at a rally in Red Bluff, California. While it had great bones, it needed a full restoration from top to bottom. After two years of planning, we rolled up our sleeves and brought this vintage gem back to life—It was completed just in time for its debut at the 2025 Palm Springs Modernism Week Vintage Trailer Show in February.

The Restoration Process
We began the restoration on the exterior, replacing all of the aluminum siding. Much of the wood framing—especially near the bottom—was rotted and had to be rebuilt. We also updated the insulation, electrical, and plumbing systems.

For the exterior look, we decided to paint the top and bottom panels and polish the aluminum band around the center. We restored all the window frames, replacing the rubber seals and glass, and even updated the Hollywood windows with new Plexiglas. Most of the marker lights, taillights, and hardware are original and in excellent condition.

Underneath, we replaced the axle, wheels, tires, and brakes. We also installed new propane lines, a tank, and a custom tank holder to round out the exterior upgrades.

A Fresh Take on the Interior
Inside, our goal was to preserve the trailer’s original character. We refinished the beautiful birchwood paneling, restored the floors, and refreshed both the vintage refrigerator and stove. In the rear bedroom, we added a new full-size mattress, and in the living room, we installed a queen-size sleeper sofa.

The bathroom, originally made of aluminum and equipped with a toilet, sink, and shower, got a slight layout change—we removed the sink to free up some space and installed a new toilet and shower fixture. Although this is a park model that requires full hookups, we added a small black tank for added convenience. To brighten things up, we painted the entire bathroom a glossy white, giving it a clean, fresh feel.

Worth the Effort
The full restoration took about eight months, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. It still feels true to its original Art Deco design, but with all the comforts and style updates needed for modern use. To top it all off, our M-System trailer was was featured in issue 79 of the Vintage Camper Trailers Magazine and honored with a Best of Modernism Award at the 2025 Palm Springs show—a moment we’ll never forget.

This camper was found in a field in the UP of Michigan in a dilapidated condition. The restoration, finished in October of 2015, included taking the trailer completely apart, the frame repaired and painted, and we added a receiver hitch. The existing wall frames were used to build new frames.

All windows, rock guard, and most of the skin (one piece was patched on front end), and interior cabinets and cut outs are original. The interior wood is ash and has been finished to a beautiful glow.

The cream colored propane stove and electric refrigerator are period appropriate and work. There is a porcelain toilet, on demand water heater, furnace, small air conditioner, 4 vintage style leveling jacks, and, outdoor shower.

There is a full size Comfort Dreams mattress, which was shaved down along the side at the foot of the bed to allow for the bathroom door to open.

The dinette can be moved down and the bus style cushions, (original frames, they were upholstered during restoration in navy vinyl with white diamond, like a ‘50’s American diner), lay flat for additional bed space. After trying many different ideas, we have found that a single air mattress on top of the cushions is the best way to go.

All jalousie windows work well and are original. All other windows are also in great condition. The side window by the bed was retrofitted as an escape hatch.

New wide white wall Firestone tires were installed in 2023. The original brake magnets finally gave out in 2024, so the axle was rebuilt in September of 2024. In 2024, a new 7point cable was also installed. A new AGM battery was installed in 2023. The restored camper has been winterized every fall and stored inside an unheated storage facility until spring. The black tank was serviced by Kleen Tank May 2025.

Included in the sale is an 8” drop ball hitch that has been retro fitted to accommodate a Pro Series Friction Sway Control bar, (included), and a black and white striped awning custom made by Marti’s Awnings, with ropes and poles. Also included are sheets, mattress pads, twin air mattress, stabilizing jacks, and various items.

Over all, the camper, “Blue Betty” is in very good condition and I have thoroughly enjoyed camping with her and my friends. Boles Aero is a rare piece of American RV nostalgia! I am selling in order to move up to a larger camper.

Serious offers considered.

Kenskill trailers were originally manufactured in Burbank California and later on in Sun Valley California from 1946 through the late 60's into the early 70's. By 1959 the company boasted to having produced 15,000 trailers. They also started one of the biggest trailer clubs with 200 members with 90% being Kenskill owners. They were considered one of the best built trailers of that era.

When we purchased this trailer in California, it had been in Alaska. There was a lot of rotted wood, so we gutted it and rebuilt it. ( We have photos of the whole process.) The metal structure was in great shape as were the cabinets and seats. As we thought we would do some traveling with it, we decided to add the solar system, an electric toilet and holding system, a hot water heater, a new refrigerator and stove. We painted it with two coats of primer. Then we moved to Kansas and took it with us. The only thing not finished was hooking up all the wires. We just completed that. We no longer want to travel in the US, so it is now for sale. It has been under cover the whole time in Kansas.

1957 Aljo Vintage Travel Trailer

Here is my adorable, restored, 1957 Aljo 13 foot canned ham travel trailer very lightweight only 1500 lbs. Restored this trailer restored top to bottom in 2009.
This classic little travel trailer turns heads everywhere we go!
Entire front 1/3 of the trailer was completely dismantled and rebuilt with an all new structure.
The same was done in the rear 1/3 of the trailer dismantled and rebuilt.
All skin was removed and resealed all the seams.
Skin in the rear of the trailer list of made to match the original.
The whole trailer was triple sealed... the top skin was rolled over the sides and sealed when then a custom shaped trim was installed over the scene with RV putty tape then the shape the trim edges were sealed.
85% of the original Birch interior was saved because you can't buy wood with the really nice grain like the old stuff. Some of it had to be replaced in the front and one piece of the rear all the interior wood matches perfectly it was stripped and refinished to look like a fine piece of furniture. The ice box was built brand new 100 percent 304 stainless steel ice box with top of the line insulation and mounted in the original door a block of ice will last five to seven days.
The heater is in mint condition. Dismantled and reassembled for cleaning and painted the grate with 1200° paint.
The stove and oven was in perfect working condition as was the porcelain cook top. Was media blasted and painted to match the original 1950 green along with the ice box door.
The countertop and all original cabinet sliders are all original.
All very nice custom made blinds and bark cloth window coverings.
Custom awning made by Marti's Awnings.
The booth style dinette is original and imperfect seats were reupholstered.
All the 110 electrical was rewired and has all new fixtures and a lot of outlets throughout there are hidden to keep the vintage look.
All propane lines were replaced with new ones.
All water and water drain lines were replaced with new.
The freshwater tank was replaced with a new stainless steel 10 gallon tank.
The original hand pump was rebuilt And new water pump installed.
The gaslight was dismantled cleaned and reassembled.
In the rear of the trailer is a full time bed. New mattress custom made very comfortable plus a 20 inch flat screen TV on a mount so you can watch TV from the dinette or the bed and it's hooked up to a DVD player. Cable hookup also installed so you can hook into cable at a campground if you wish and watch TV.
The flooring is correct and very close to what the trailer had back new in 1957.
Now the outside:
The skin is in great shape no major dents or dings brand new wheel hub caps trailer tire wheels painted the same as the trailer at a local hot rod shop with the original paint scheme the color is an off white and an orange red
The original tongue Jack was dismantled and rebuilt with ball hearings and is very smooth.
All the trailer lights are LED lights to match the original ones taken off with four inch lights in the rear and beehive lights on the side all trailer wires were replaced during the reassemble of the trailer.
