I present to you a vintage 1973 Thunderbird “Castle on Wheels” travel trailer (16 foot), with wet bath. Different from the more common travel trailers of that period, Thunderbird prided itself on high quality construction, fixtures, and appliances. Except for newer electric, plumbing, window, storage, and flooring system upgrades, the major components of this travel trailer are in original, good working condition.

In 2019, I purchased this Thunderbird travel trailer for $10,000 from a classic car restorer who partially renovated this trailer; I invested another $16,000 to complete its restoration. Replacements and upgrades include, but are not limited to the following: Exterior and interior paint; Weather stripping and silicone; Glass louvers; Rear bumper; Electric and stabilizing jacks; Safety tow package; Security system, including new vintage lockable door know, dead bolt, hitch lock, propane tank lock, cable lock, and battery lock box; Seating, including upholstery; Propane system; Plumbing system, including fresh water tank, water pump, access port, and hoses; Sewer system, including black water tank and hoses; Electrical system, including wiring, circuit braker panel, 12-volt battery, converter, 30-50 amp adapter, surge protector, and trailer hitch connection; Window covering; Entertainment system, including television, blue ray player, and DISH satellite (membership can be transferred to new owner); 110-volt Bluetooth air conditioner; Awning and chairs; Kitchen and bathroom fixtures; Rear camera; and Storage system, including custom shelving and high-grade plastic storage containers. Additional upgrades include vintage ceiling light and wall clock, refurbished bed frame, and fold-down desk, just to name a few. Also included with the sale of this Thunderbird travel trailer are: Tools and repair parts; Kitchen cookware, dinner ware, and storage; Cleaning supplies; Toilet paper; and miscellaneous replacement parts.

While making every effort to maintain the original character of this trailer, it has been outfitted with several features designed to enhance the safety and lifespan of this beauty. Special modifications include: LED brake lights; exterior metal plating; water tank framed with steel; new electrical wiring and box to accommodate A/C and modern appliances; new plumbing with pump for dry camping; added security for door, batteries, and propane; rear-mounted camera; and safe tow package.

I have tested all components of this Thunderbird travel trailer via two separate stays at the Patagonia Lake State Park, during winter and summer months. Considering she is about 50 years old, all original fixtures and appliances function well and as they should. I tow this trailer with a half-ton pickup truck with no issues. Whether you decide to camp in an area with utilities or dry camp, this Thunderbird travel trailer is indeed a rare find and awaits your next camping adventure.

NOTE: I did not use the toilet but tested the plumbing and sewer systems with appropriate water solutions.
