ROUTE 66 RALLY- “Get Your Kicks at the Buellton Bash”
The Vibe
Celebrate the one hundredth anniversary of Route 66! Think 1950s/60s roadside Americana: neon motel signs, roadside diners, gas pumps, jukeboxes, and the freedom of the open road. Nostalgic and kitschy, but also celebratory—like a giant road trip pit stop where everyone pulls in their trailers for food, fun, and music.
Music
Classic road trip rock & roll: Chuck Berry’s “Route 66,” The Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Roy Orbison. Doo-wop and diner jukebox vibes: The Platters, The Coasters, Dion & the Belmonts. Mix in some roadhouse blues and country for variety.
Costumes
Route 66 Travelers: leather jackets, poodle skirts, jeans + white tees, roadside diner waitresses, gas station attendants, or truck stop mechanics.
Icons of the Era: Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis, Lucille Ball, cowboy movie stars.
Decor
Neon-style signage: Motel, Vacancy, Diner, Route 66 Shield.
Checkered tablecloths, jukebox corners, and faux gas pumps.
Walkway “road” made with black mats + white stripes leading into the main party area.
Vintage car cutouts/photo backdrops—classic convertibles, diners, motels.
Signs for the famous Route 66 stops (Cadillac Ranch, Wigwam Motel, Santa Monica Pier, etc.).

Thursday Welcome Potluck – “Diner Night”: dress as waitresses, carhops, and soda jerks. Serve floats, burgers, and milkshakes.
Friday Night Social – “Neon Nights”: blacklight glow party with Route 66 neon décor. Include trivia on Route 66 history.
Saturday Street Party – “Get Your Kicks”: live music, dance floor, costume contest, and maybe a “Classic Car + Trailer Light Parade.”
Games/Activities:
Route 66 Bingo (with landmarks, diners, states along the route).
Sock hop dance-off.
Photo booth with props: giant Route 66 shield, leather jackets, diner menus, Elvis wigs.
Karaoke “Jukebox Hits.”
