Description
This 1963 Bambi is an Ohio built 16’ Trailer. Serial #163T180

The Bambi has undergone a total body and frame off restoration. Every part of the Bambi was restored to as close to its original state as possible, what could not be restored was replaced and improved for safety and present day use. A brief recap is included below.

The interior walls and end caps were removed, cleaned, stripped, sealed and covered with the correct period Zolatone paint. The Bambi was insulated with Roxul mineral wool.

The exterior skin was resealed from the inside and all seams and buck rivets checked. The subfloor is Dragon Hydrotek Marine Plywood coated with West System Epoxy Resin. Windows were removed from the body and rebuilt with new glass, seals, butyl and buck riveted back onto the body.

Frame restored and POR 15 painted, all frame channels welded shut to prevent rodent passage. A 15 gallon gray tank was built into frame with separate gray valve and tank drain. The A-frame has an original storage compartment to carry included Rhino dump hose and connectors. The Bambi rides on a new 3500 lb axle, wheels, ST tires and “Mooneye”aluminum wheel covers with Deuz fasteners. The Belly pan was replaced with all new aluminum.

The electrical system has been improved with the addition of an Electrical Management System, Electrical Control Center with AC and 12v panel and battery charger. New 12/3 wiring, 20 amp receptacles and 12v wiring installed. The Bambi has an inboard Solar Control Panel with an exterior input Plug for a free standing Solar Panel. Trailer equipped with AMG battery, and new 7 way trailer connection, breakaway switch, and wiring to electric trailer brakes.

All new hardwood maple trim and veneer plywood replaced all cabinetry following the period floor plan and cabinet style. There are: five lower drawers, an upper street side stow away; a curb side closet with four shelves and pole; a door pantry with four shelves and a lower storage/utility compartment. Drawers have locking latch pulls and are mounted on modern slides. Original and reproduction hardware was utilized with the light fixtures converted to 12v.

Interior upholstery fabric is Sunbella Select Heritage Wheat recycled indoor/outdoor fabric. Curtains and exterior window shades match new Vintage style pole Awning from Vintage Trailer Supply. The floor is Armstrong Vinyl Composite Tile.

The kitchen area contains the original sink, a vintage re-enameled three burner LP cook stove, and vintage LP Dometic refrigerator with manual and temperature controlled cooling fans.

Heat provided by an Olympic Wave 3 LP Safety Heater. Roof vent is a VTS gray flat style Fantastic Fan. A power line and drain is in place for future air conditioner installation and the interior frame at roof opening was reinforced.

Bambi is equipped with a 23 gallon fresh water tank with gravity fill and shore hose connect, a 12v pump, and through floor drain. There is a Camco Pre pump winterizer bypass kit. The Suburban 6 gal. LP water Heater has a wall ignition switch and an optional Bypass kit. The original shower pan and black tank wet bath was restored and a new Dometic toilet installed. Both the galley and shower have new faucets with PEX plumbing throughout. Shower wand is original to 1963 Airstreams and made in Germany. There is a double on/off warning light for water pump. A 12 volt charger is in the closet for devices. Shore Power connects to Furrion 30 amp power inlet and 25’ Power Cord w/led light. LP gas is supplied by two 20 LB Worthington Aluminum Tanks, new regulator, hoses, and copper lines.

There was almost no expense spared as the price reflects to restore this trailer and improve the systems for current use. A professional Appraisal was just obtained and the Bambi recently won the Vintage Airstream Club Concours d’ Elegance Platinum Award and The Bill Scott Best Bambi Award. This Bambi is an Ohio example of the California model now in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art, NY.
