More about Robbers Cave State Park
Robbers Cave State Park is a stunning natural retreat nestled in the Sans Bois Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma, rich with history and outdoor adventure. Once a notorious hideout for outlaws like Jesse James and the Dalton Gang, the park now offers a scenic escape with rugged cliffs, wooded trails, and serene lakes. Established in the 1930s as part of the New Deal’s Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) efforts, the park showcases Parkitecture—a rustic design aesthetic seen in its hand-built stone cabins, shelters, and iconic Lake Carlton Dam. Visitors can explore miles of hiking and equestrian trails, paddle across the lake, or learn about local wildlife at the Nature Center. With its blend of history, craftsmanship, and natural beauty, Robbers Cave remains a beloved destination for outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, and vintage camping fans alike. Enjoy all the park has to offer, and nearby historic Butterfield Overland Mail Route points of interest!
Park Features:
• Nature Center: Explore exhibits and participate in naturalist programs.
• On-Site Restaurant: Convenient dining options within the park.
• Canoeing/Kayaking: Rent paddleboats or canoes for a relaxing time on the water.
• Swimming Pool & Beach: Cool off at the park’s swimming facilities.
• Miniature Golf: Fun for all ages with the park’s mini-golf course.
• Horseback Riding: Explore trails with on-site horseback riding stables.
Bonus Events! The Relics & Rods Car Show and Cruise + a Fireworks Show in Wilburton will make this a weekend to remember!
Group Gatherings: We’ll meet at Shelter Pavilion #7 for community fun! This pavilion is across the road from Whispering Pines Campground.
Don’t miss out—reserve your spot today and get ready for a weekend of vintage camping, history, and adventure!
